Coleus (Coleus forskohlii) is an aromatic perennial plant, reaching about two feet in height when fully mature. It features tuberous roots, a straight and erect stem, and vibrant, colorful leaves. The plant emits a fragrance similar to that of camphor, making it not only useful but also pleasant to grow.
Uses Coleus has shown promise in various health applications:
Cultivation Originally native to India, Coleus is now widely cultivated in gardens and herbal nurseries worldwide, particularly in tropical and subtropical climates. It thrives in well-drained soil and can flourish both in direct sunlight and partially shaded areas. The plant grows optimally in sandy loam soil but can adapt to other soil types with proper care and management.
Species Coleus is a medicinal herb that grows in a bushy form up to two feet tall. The active compound, Forskolin, is extracted from the plant using solvent extraction and is exported to countries like Japan, Germany, the USA, and Russia for pharmaceutical use. Coleus requires irrigation and can be planted from July to March.
Marketing The crop is relatively easy to market, with both dry and fresh roots being in demand. Our company also offers a Buy Back agreement to ensure smooth transactions.
Harvesting The plant is ready for harvest 5-6 months after planting. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the tubers during harvest. Post-harvest, the tubers are cut into small pieces and dried in the shade until they reach a moisture level of 8%.
